Hi, I'm Fawwaz Anvilen. People usually call me Faw, Fawwaz, or Waz.

I’m based in Jakarta (or somewhere in its sprawling urban area). I was born in Palembang, though I grew up moving around Indonesia.

You may know me from Twitter as @fawwazanvilen.

I graduated from Institut Teknologi Bandung, with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering.

I do management consulting work at PwC Indonesia, particularly with financial service institutions. I’m looking for work at more effective cause areas.

In my spare time, I’m quite active in my local Effective Altruism and Rationalist community in Jakarta. I’ve hosted a few ACX meetups, and made a video series on EA ideas for Indonesian audiences.

I write on Indonesian policies, with my friend Guntur, on a substack newsletter called “Notes on Nusantara”.

I’m also trying to kickstart a book-reading thing, that you can see here.

I’m currently interested in, in no particular order,

• China modern history, post-Imperial China
• Geoism (or, Georgism), Land Value Tax, ways we can make our lives inside urban areas better
• Effective Altruism, Animal Welfare
• AI Safety, living through what might be the most transformative era of humanity
• Indonesian policies, particularly as it relates to Indonesia’s growth and flourishing
